Joan Jett, just inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, resurrected an oldie of ours “Everybody Needs a Hero” written by Kenny Laguna and Peter Anders on her recent album.

1966-1967  -

Peter Anders and Vini Poncia accepted Artie Ripp’s offer to base their music services at Artie’s Kama Sutra Records, then highly successful with The Lovin’ Spoonful.  Using the name Tradewinds, Anders & Poncia score a national hit with “Mind Excursion” with a follow-up album.  They have another hit with  “New York’s A Lonely Town” and are sent out promoting the album.   Not wanting to compete with Tradewinds, Anders & Poncia and Ripp form a studio band -- The Innocence.  They hit with “There’s Got To Be A Word”, written by Don Ciccone of The Critters, a group they were producing at the time.

During their time with Ripp, Peter and Vini continue writing songs, producing and performing on records for Kama Sutra and Buddah Records, as well as Ripp was leasing their services to other labels.  Anders &  Poncia’s music publishers plugging their songs resulting in many cover recordings through the end of the 1960s.  The artists and musicians they collaborated with includes Bobby Bloom, Richard Perry, Tommy James & The Shondells, Ritchie Cordell, Bo Gentry , Tony Bruno, Jay & The Americans, Vince Edwards (TV’s “Ben Casey”), and Kenny Laguna.
